Course Overview
This course provides an introduction to how to start your own tourism business. Course work will focus on key entrepreneurial skills and the process of starting a company including: how to identify and evaluate a new business idea based on market potential; how to set up a business (incorporation, proprietorship, partnership); what entrepreneurial skills are required; how to research a new business idea; and what is the process of developing a new product or service. Through the examination of case studies, students will assess business start-ups. Students will develop their own marketing plan for a small tourism enterprise.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

- Identify key considerations in the process of starting a new business.
- Recall the common legal forms of organization used by businesses.
- Explain the importance of researching target market needs/wants and the micro/macro environment.
- Discuss various business models and concepts.
- Create a personal professional growth plan to address areas of entrepreneurial strengths and weaknesses.
