Course Overview
The overall objective of this course is to enhance your skills by supplementing your knowledge of accounting with a thorough understanding of the strategic management process and the integration of concepts learned in other disciplines. This course qualifies as a prerequisite for entrance into the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).

- Acceptance into the Bachelor of Accounting or Advanced Diploma in Professional Accounting Program or approval from the Program Head

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Assess the current performance of an organization
- Analyze and interpret ratios and trends to evaluate results
- Evaluate the performance of a company’s board of directors and senior management team
- Assess the organization’s corporate social responsibility program(s)
- Evaluate the effectiveness of a firm’s mission, vision, strategies and policies
- Analyze the external environment of an organization
- Assess the level of competition in an industry or market
- Interpret the political, economic, socio-cultural, legal and ecological factors impacting an organization to identify threats and opportunities.
- Evaluate an organization’s resources, capabilities and ability to compete
- Assess the value of an organization’s resources and capabilities using a variety of frameworks
- Conclude whether an organization’s existing functional strategies are appropriate and are being executed effectively
- Construct a rudimentary strategic plan
- Revise a vision and mission for an organization
- Propose and evaluate potential corporate, business and functional strategies
- Combine various strategic initiatives into a cohesive plan for the organization
- Develop implementation plans
- Evaluate the ethical implications of alternative courses of action
- Assess the performance of colleagues in their role in the strategic planning process
