Course Overview
This course focuses on the processes involved in the production of lumber. It explores each step of the production processes from the perspective of the technology and staff involved, safety measures required, and sustainability strategies implemented. This perspective is applied to the log yard, sawmill, kiln, planer, and shipping yard. The course provides foundational knowledge that is directly applicable to competencies related to operational management of a sawmill plant. Students engage in their learning through online activities across the term, and in-class activities during an onsite week. Students' knowledge is assessed through online discussions, quizzes, and the final exam as well as through practical projects.
