Course details

This is an advanced course for students specializing in human resource management. The learning outcomes address both the knowledge and skills to design and implement effective recruitment and selection processes and/or to critique and improve existing processes. The outcomes also address the specific skills to conduct selection interviewing. The course materials are designed to be relevant for a human resource professional in either an organizational or consulting capacity. This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at www.bcit.ca/financial-aid/strongerbc-future-skills-grant. Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the processes and systems for effective recruitment and selection of employees.
  • Prepare for and conduct behavior based selection interviews and panel interview.
  • Research and understand current issues related to the recruitment and selection of employees.
  • Appreciate the application of statistical concepts as they relate to recruitment and selection.
  • Understand the relevant legal framework in both unionized and non-unionized settings.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of an organization's recruitment and selection process and make improvements where indicated.
