Course details

Project managers add value to their organizations and various stakeholder groups through the application of their knowledge, skills, and talents. The Project Management Capstone course is your opportunity to use the knowledge you have acquired thus far, in a realistic setting. You will put to work your understanding of the five process groups and ten knowledge areas to demonstrate your readiness to take up new project challenges and launch a career in the project management profession. The intent is to use the project management body of knowledge in real world applied settings. You will have a broad range of choices in adopting a project for course work purposes. The instructor shall provide alternative assignments if logistical challenges are encountered. This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at www.bcit.ca/financial-aid/strongerbc-future-skills-grant. Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Critically analyse strategic goals to propose project ideas.
  • Prioritize project ideas relative to weighted criteria through applying selection models.
  • Craft a scope statement for a project that describes the project boundaries and key deliverables.
  • Create a project charter.
  • Develop a comprehensive project plan.
  • Evaluate the progress of a project, prepare a status report, and propose needed management changes.
  • Prepare a Lesson Learned report and propose improvements to the project management process.
