Course Overview
This course provides students with an introduction to project planning, management, and key policies that guide ecological restoration. Students will participate in real-world situations, including bidding on a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an ecological restoration project for the class to actively manage from initiation to close-out. Students will identify current policies, including those related to climate change adaptation, that may impact their work as restoration ecologists and debate their pros and cons.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Plan, write and submit an effective and winning project proposal
- Manage an ecological restoration project through the five phases of a project cycle: (i) initiation, (ii) planning and design, (iii) execution through implementation and construction, (iv) project control and monitoring, and (v) completion reporting and close-out
- Adapt restoration projects to parallel key federal and provincial laws that drive ecological restoration and permits required for a restoration project
- Integrate current policies within ecological restoration that may affect management of projects
- Assess critically habitat restoration projects and long-term effectiveness as it relates to climate change, assess these risks, and provide adaptive management
- Network with project stakeholders, including local and Indigenous communities, and assess their interests in restoration projects and their influence on project success
- Develop effective engagement and consultation methods to integrate local and Indigenous communities in a specific restoration project.
