Course Overview
Film captures the attention of audiences and brings stories to life. Having a solid foundation in camera skills is essential in this modern media age. This course is designed for students interested in the basics of video and film camera operation; Students will explore professional camera set up, lighting, sound recording and editing of scenes. The art of sequencing your shots to tell a story both technically and aesthetically is also introduced. The hands-on approach enables students to gain experience and confidence using a professional video camera to shoot popular scenes used in news, corporate, online and film production.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the proper procedures for setting up a camera.
- Shoot a scene using correct white balance and differentiate colour balances.
- Choose (and execute) the proper exposure of the camera given the lighting for a specific shot or sequence.
- Explain how to professionally sequence a scene.
- Use a microphone to capture professional quality audio.
- Use a professional video camera to shoot a professional scene.
- Compare and contrast different video camera types, and select the appropriate video camera given a specific scenario.
- Properly set up a time code in a camera for the appropriate shooting scenario.
