Course Overview
A comprehensive course on cardiac catheterization diagnostic and intervention principles representing the essentials necessary for a practicing cardiovascular technologist. Examines concepts of cardiac catheterization with specific orientation to cardiac angiography, hemodynamics, calculations of cardiac values, and general lab practices. Also presents aspects of congenital cardiac catheterization, and other diagnostic modalities such as IVUS and FFR. Complications and common medications in the lab are also highlighted.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the roles and dynamics found in the cath lab.
- Explain the indications and the contraindications for diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations.
- Describe the equipment, supplies and techniques required for diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations.
- Describe the techniques and equipment to assist with interventions, such as Rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, and embolic protection devices.
- Describe the techniques and equipment for special procedures such as CTOs and Septal ablations.
- Describe the techniques and equipment for Structural heart procedures.
- Describe the techniques and equipment for Cardiac Support procedures.
- Identify normal and abnormal cardiac indices, pressures, and saturations in the cardiopulmonary system.
- Perform calculations on recorded data in order to establish the diagnosis of specific abnormal pathophysiology.
- Understand Pediatric congenital anatomy and pathophysiology.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal cardiopulmonary anatomy obtained from angiograms.
- Describe other Diagnostic modalities found in the Cath lab and their indications.
- Understand the complications experienced in the cath lab and what can be done when they happen.
