Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Convert units and use dimensional analysis. [1, 2]
  • Analyze translational and rotational motion in one and two dimensions using kinematics, free body diagrams and Newton's laws of motion. [1, 2]
  • Analyze torques in equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems. [1, 2]
  • Apply conservation of momentum to solve one and two dimensional collision problems. [1, 2]
  • Analyze equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems using work and mechanical energy. [1, 2]
  • Use stress and strain to characterize material behaviour. [1, 2]
  • Interpret documented experimental procedures. [3, 7]
  • Document data collected in laboratory experiments, and present experimental data graphically. [3, 7]
  • Assess and propagate experimental uncertainties. [3]
  • Interpret experimental agreement quantitatively, using comparison plots, overlap, percent difference and the coefficient of determination. [3]

Effective as of Fall 2022
