The course provides students with the fundamentals of keeping a safe navigational watch. Emphasis is given to International and Canadian Collision Regulations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Define the main terminology used in the Collision regulations.
- Identify lights and shapes as specified in the Collision regulations for vessels.
- Identify sound signaling for clear and restricted visibility situations.
- Interpret steering and sailing rules.
- State the various types of signals prescribed to indicate distress and need of assistance.
- Explain the basic principles to be observed in keeping a navigational watch, watch at anchor, and watch in port.
- Identify the basic duties of a watchkeeping officer at sea, port and anchorage.
