Course Overview
In this nano-module, you will be introduced to the structure and function of government decision making and its effects on society and natural resources. You will become familiar with the main pieces of policy and law that govern resources in British Columbia, as well as the players making those decisions. You will be introduced to both Canadian colonial approaches and principles of resources governance by First Nations. This module is taught by Alexia Constantinou, with an emphasis on critical thinking activities and introduction to new themes by expert guest instructors.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand and be familiar with the main pieces of policy and legislation that govern forestry, mining, agriculture, wildlife and energy.
- Ability to recognize the stakeholders and representatives of the public associated with each sector mentioned above.
- Basic level of understanding around land ownership and definition (brief intro to Treaties).
- Understand the provided introduction to Indigenous resources governance - specifically forestry and wildlife.
- Understand and be able to critically examine instances where Canadian/Provincial and Indigenous governments have successfully or unsuccessfully co-managed natural resources (and where do environmental consultants fit into this).
