Course Overview
Maps and mapping are important components of environmental assessment projects. Maps contain a large amount of information and data and, for that reason, are then useful for summarizing project data and findings. The Maps and Mapping for Field Technicians nano-module will provide participants with a basic understanding of the skills required to identify key features and interpret map data.

- Grade 10 Math or equivalent and Basic English Proficiency and Competency with Computer.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Gain experience using the National Topographic Survey system.
- Define and contrast map scale.
- Measure distances on maps using various methods.
- Geo-reference mapping information.
- Interpret contour lines from maps.
- Describe and demonstrate the use of a compass.
- Differentiate between magnetic north, true north, and grid north.
- Set compass declination.
- Define the use of GPS.
- Understand the use of GPS to enter waypoints and navigation.
