Course details

This course is designed to introduce students to the dominant legal issues arising in relation to computers, Information Technology and the Internet. It is also designed to provide students with basic legal research skills they can use to monitor developments in the law relevant to their interests or job functions.

Prerequisite(s)

  • Admission to a Forensic credential program or permission of the Program Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Recognize significant legal issues relating to computers, Information Technology and the Internet.
  • Understand the legal principles underlying current developments in the law in this area.
  • Differentiate between criminal offences, regulatory offences, and civil wrongs.
  • Understand the basic process of, and limitations on, the evidence gathering and presentation process in the criminal, regulatory, and civil processes.
  • Demonstrate facility with legal research resources, including those available online.
