Course Overview
Regenerative building is an approach that goes beyond sustainability by actively restoring and revitalizing ecosystems and communities. It aims to create built environments that not only minimize harm to the environment but also have a positive impact on ecological systems and human well-being. Regenerative principles draw inspiration from nature, recognizing the interconnectedness of all living systems and seeking to mimic nature's regenerative processes. It involves designing in harmony with the natural environment, fostering collaboration and holistic thinking.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Design buildings that use little to no external energy sources using the principles of passive design that use natural elements like sunlight and shade.
- Identify mechanical building technology that contributes to regenerative design.
- Describe strategies that contribute to buildings using substantially less water to operate and being capable of treating water to potable standards.
- Recognize and address damage to the natural environment that occurs due to construction activity and human occupancy.
- Choose building materials with minimal to no carbon and health impacts.
- Explain how the building is a system, within the larger systems of the community and environment.
Effective as of Winter 2024
