In the new age of Peer-to-Peer digital cash system, we are introduced to new ways and methods of sharing and gaining wealth. The idea of using a decentralized monetary system with the ability to send/receive money anywhere in the world, instantly, securely and as easy as sending an email is what stands behind the development of cryptocurrencies. Those emerging technologies are gaining further ground and being embraced by companies and governments around the globe. The idea of blockchain has evolved beyond its original purpose and is being used for many other goals. This independent study course is for anyone interested in exploring the first steps in the cryptocurrency world. Those looking to learn more about why cryptocurrencies are so popular today, and how it all began, how bitcoins were created and transferred, how to "mine" for cryptocurrency, and what is a blockchain, will find their answers here. *Note: Thank you for your interest in a BCIT – Free Online Learning course.
