Course Overview
Students will learn about the installation methods and components used for interior floor, wall and ceiling systems in mass timber construction. They will learn best practices for fire protection and sound installation in mass timber buildings. Students will consider strategies for the installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services and troubleshoot installation problems.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain pathways to building code compliance through alternative solutions and acceptable solutions.
- Describe the primary means to achieving fire safety in buildings.
- Describe the basic concepts of building acoustics.
- Describe how noise moves through a building.
- Describe how installation details affect sound insulation performance.
- Explain the installation of interior wall, floor and ceiling systems and their respective components are typically installed in mass timber construction.
- Describe the best practices for fire protection of mass timber buildings, including encapsulation and firestopping.
- Describe the different types of building products used in wall, floor, ceiling, and window applications for mass timber construction which are used to increase sound insulation performance.
- Describe the best practices for installation of acoustic products for wall, floor, window, and ceiling applications in mass timber products.
- Explain considerations for the installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing services in mass timber construction.
- Troubleshoot mass timber installation problems.
