Course details

​This comprehensive renewable energy systems integration course is dedicated to equipping students with the expertise required for the installation, maintenance (upkeep), and troubleshooting (diagnosis) of wind turbine energy systems. Throughout the course, students will delve into the intricacies of mechanical drive train systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and PLC control systems that constitute the core of wind turbines. Specialized software will be employed to simulate the operation and monitoring of large-scale utility-grade wind turbines. This course places a strong emphasis on hands-on application, ensuring that by its conclusion, students will be adept at the seamless installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of wind turbine power systems.​

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the Canadian Electrical Code to wind turbine systems installations.
  • Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot wind turbine mechanical drive train by utilizing specific professional tools.
  • Program and troubleshoot wind turbine PLC control systems.
  • Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot wind turbine hydraulic system by utilizing industrial standard equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot wind turbine electrical systems.
  • Maintain and monitor large utility scale wind turbine farms.
  • Demonstrate adherence to all safety protocols related to wind turbine systems.
