This course is designed to give students an opportunity to pursue a particular area of interest within the High Acuity Nursing Specialty. This course is intended to build on the theory and clinical experience from the first 4 courses in the High Acuity program (NSHA 7100, NSCC 7150, NSHA 7201, and NSHA 7300). The learning outcomes provided are supplemented by the student-specific learning goals. These learning goals are developed in collaboration and support with the High Acuity faculty.

Learning Outcomes

As a healthcare practitioner, you are expected to follow professional standards of practice throughout all SN programs and courses. In this course, you will have opportunities to use the processes of critical thinking, systematic inquiry, communication, collaboration, leadership, professionalism, and clinical decision-making. Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Consistently demonstrate clinical decision-making to manage factors that negatively affect Oxygen Supply and Demand balance.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to prioritize appropriate care, and advocate for the high acuity patient.
  • Apply knowledge of High Acuity nursing practice to evaluate and plan advanced interventions for high acuity patients.
