Course Overview
An introduction to hydronic heating systems, covering fundamentals and applications of boilers, controls, venting, combustion, fuel costs estimating, piping strategies and sizing, pump sizing and selection, valve sizing and selection, and selection of heat emitters. An overview on radiant floor heating design and other alternate systems based on renewable energy sources, such as solar and geothermal are included.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Differentiate among the main types of hydronic heating systems.
- Evaluate flue venting and fuel requirement based on NFPA code and fuel energy content.
- Design venting systems for gas-fired boilers based on building code.
- Select and specify pipe, fittings, and valves for hydronic heating applications.
- Select various terminal units and radiant panels based on heat requirement.
- Identify the zoning criteria.
- Design hydronic heating applications based on engineering calculations.
- Layout a hydronic piping system to industry practices.
- Analyze various types of boilers and selection.
- Understand control strategies used in hydronic heating systems.
