Course details
This is a practical introduction to the elements of proposal and grant writing: purpose and responsibility, organizational readiness, research, mechanics of preparation, development of a formal proposal/grant, presentation, follow-up, and post grant reporting. Students gain skills through hands-on practice identifying potential funders, and developing and refining their proposal.

Due to the intensive and interactive nature of this course students are required to attend all classes. Classes will run May 3-5 and May 24-26 in-class at the downtown campus with the following class times: Friday - 1730 - 2030 and Saturday/Sunday - 0900-1630

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Undertake a grant search to identify potential funding sources for his/her project.
- Evaluate the fit between his/her project and funder interests and priorities.
- Apply appropriate concepts and formats to grant letters and proposals.
- Prepare a project proposal for a granting agency.
- Use research/data to create a project rationale and needs statement.
- Prepare a detailed project work plan.
- Prepare a project budget.
- Prepare an outline for an evaluation plan for a project's grant application.
- Describe key characteristics of an effective grant proposal.
- Describe how funders assess grant proposals.
- Evaluate a project proposal based on grant criteria.
- State the expectations and responsibilities of grantees.
