Course details

The course introduces the students to the theory, methodology and mathematical concepts in support of geographic profiling. Crime pattern theory, mental maps, crime hunting area concepts and supporting technology are also covered.

  • Admission to a Forensic credential program or permission of the Program Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the theoretical foundations, definitions and concepts and principles of geographic profiling.
  • Apply the crime pattern theory, statistics and mathematic concepts behind geographic profiling to investigative work.
  • Conduct reconstruction and interpretation of offender's mental map.
  • Conduct Time/Speed/Distance analysis, and Drive time analysis.
  • Develop search strategies leading to more effective case analysis.
  • Plan and complete geographic profile reports.
  • Assess and adopt emerging technology in geographic profiling.
