Course Overview
This course aims to provide learners with the fundamentals of Substation Automation Systems. It primarily reviews digital substations, their components, systems, topologies, features, and functionalities. It then explains Substation Automation Systems and protocols/standards such as IEC 61850. Moreover, it covers important topics related to digital substations such as substation design, communication, networking analysis, monitoring, control, operation, maintenance, abnormal event management, condition monitoring, FLISR, and virtualization. Last but not least, it goes over the security and cybersecurity aspects of digital substations in detail. This synchronous online course consists of fourteen modules. Each module includes a module blueprint, learning outcome section, lecture session, self-quiz, and post-lecture practice (or lab work). In general, two weeks are assigned for each module to be completed. Three more hours are assigned for final project review, presentation, and discussions.
