This course provides the basic legal and scientific factors relevant to forensic pathology. The medical examiner and coroner systems are examined. The course determination and the presentation of pathological findings as evidence in court.

Learning Outcomes
This course provides the basic legal and scientific factors relevant to forensic pathology. The medical examiner and coroner systems are examined. Focuses also on post-mortem determinations and the presentation of pathological findings as evidence in court.
- Interpret injuries and their probable causes.
- Describe the pathology of sudden infant death syndrome and its theories of causation.
- Describe the role of the coroner and other methods of death investigation.
- Describe the major causes of sudden natural death.
- Explain the role of a forensic pathologist in the investigation of transportation accident.
- Explain the causes of airway obstruction death and their principle postmortem features.
- Describe the current methods of estimation of time of death and determination of the interval between injury and death.
- Give an overview of medical forensic identification procedures.
- Explain the forensic investigative procedures in cases of domestic violence and elder abuse.
