- International Fees
International fees are typically 3.12 times the domestic tuition. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.
Course Overview
A look at the fundamentals of fluid flow as they apply to pressurized pipe systems. Both small and large scale pipe networks and the head losses generated are examined. Also included are simple and complex networks, the concept of equivalent pipes and the Hardy Cross Method (analytical technique) for solving systems with multiple branches.
Prerequisite(s)
- 50% in TSYH 3145
Credits
2.0
Domestic fees
$377.08
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Solve pipe flow and simple pipe network problems using various methods.
- Perform pipe calculations which involve energy losses due to local effects such as valves, bends and inlets.
- Describe how flow control devices which induce local energy losses can be used to measure flow rate in pipes.
- Employ the principles of branching pipe hydraulics.
- Discuss pipes in series and in parallel and perform equivalent pipe calculation.
- Employ the Hardy Cross method to analyze complex pipe networks.
- Discuss different unsteady flow problems relevant to civil engineering including water hammer.
Effective as of Fall 2010
