Course Overview
This course introduces students to the structure, practice guidelines, and ethical codes of the engineering profession in Canada. It provides a comprehensive review of the roles and responsibilities of the professional engineer in society, especially the primary role of protection of the public and the public interest. Topics include ethical foundations, professional codes, sustainability and environmental responsibility, community and social engagement, as well as indigenous rights and reconciliation. Lectures and case studies specific to Canada will be used to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to practice as an engineer. This course Is designed for internationally trained engineers who intend to apply for registration as a professional engineer. It is also suitable for those preparing to write the National Professional Practice Examination (NPPE).

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

- Analyze the social and environmental aspects of engineering activities.
- Describe the interactions that engineering has with the economic, social, health, safety, legal, and cultural aspects of society.

- Apply professional ethics, accountability, and equity principles to engineering practice.
