Course Overview
Canadian Fire Alarm Association Electronics course. Pre-requisite for CFAA 5. This course covers basic electronic theory which includes electron flow, current flow, impedance, inductance, and capacitance. Rectification of A/C power, the theory and operation of charging circuits, batteries, voltage regulation and testing these systems will also be discussed. The lab exercises are designed to reinforce the theory taught in class. Accepted by ASTTBC as the Electrical requirement for the Registered Fire Protection Technician stamp when combined with CFAA 3 – TELC 1142

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Work safely with electrical equipment.
- Describe the characteristics of electrical and electronic devices used in fire protection systems.
- Describe how the Canadian Electrical Code applies to fire protection systems.
- Interpret labelling on electrical components.
- Read electrical schematic drawings.
- Test basic electrical and electronic devices used in fire protection systems.
- Calculate current, voltage, and power in series, parallel, and series-parallel DC circuits.
- Measure voltage, current and resistance in electrical circuits.
- Locate faults in basic series, parallel and series-parallel DC circuits.
