Course Overview
The focus of this course is on the cost estimation of mass timber construction. Participants will learn about the key differences between mass timber construction and other forms of construction for various applications. Participants will also learn about the factors that influence pricing and demand of mass timber construction and will work through practical assignments to formulate pricing for mass timber construction projects.
Prerequisite(s)
- Students taking this course must have a minimum of one-year contiguous, full time employment experience working as a construction cost estimator for a general contractor or developer or have either a QS or CEC designation.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Summarize the principles and sequencing of mass timber construction in relation to other building systems.
- Recognize the influence of technology on pricing mass timber construction.
- Analyze the influence of supply chains, market demand and building code on pricing mass timber construction.
- Assess the comparable sustainability and environmental value of engineering team cost savings for traditional and alternative types of construction systems.
- Formulate pricing for mass timber construction of single-family residence and low-rise applications.
- Formulate pricing for mass timber construction of mid to high rise applications.
- Formulate pricing for mass timber construction of commercial, institutional and industrial applications.
- Formulate pricing for mass timber construction of above ground infrastructure applications such as bridges.
- Formulate pricing for mass timber construction in the restoration and refit of buildings and infrastructure.
