Course Overview
This first of three courses covering the scope, time and analysis of construction costs, commonly called Project Controls, covers many aspects of task and time scheduling using Microsoft Project as an aid in developing, monitoring and controlling construction projects. Topics include planning activity interrelationships, milestones, task duration and risk, managing resources, and managing float time.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to develop and input scheduling data for a typical construction project using MS Project 2000 scheduling software. This will include:
- A review of scheduling techniques, project management and advantages of using PM software.
- Use of the Gantt chart view with major milestones and phases.
- Determination of milestones within the project.
- Establishing the summary information for a new project.
- Preparation of a task list.
- Estimating task duration and related data entry.
- Creating and changing links.
- Determination of lag/lead times for tasks.
- Effect of constraints on the schedule.
- Create and check a constraint list.
- Preview the schedule and make adjustments using links/lag/lead and duration.
- Prepare a resource list for all tasks including labour, supervisors, plant, equipment, fixed costs and overhead.
- Entering resource information and sorting into groups and resource sets.
- Assigning resources to tasks.
- Understanding resource driven schedules.
- Adding fixed costs.
- Review project cost sheets.
- Tracking progress (recording progress on a monthly basis).
- Comparing baseline with current schedule (variance/cost/work tables and tracking gantt view).
- Project statistics - hide/unhide columns to create budget reports.
