Course Overview
The course provides students with a foundation of ecological theory and concepts relevant to the restoration of biotic and abiotic components and their interactions. These concepts are examined through the study of fluvial ecosystems, their attributes, processes, geomorphology, and their interactions and effects on various biological components.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Integrate ecological theories and concepts about populations, communities, and ecosystems into an ecological restoration framework.
- Assess relationships among biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem and their causes of degradation.
- Contrast suitable restoration techniques for biotic and abiotic ecosystem components.
- Describe fluvial processes and channel geomorphology, and their stressors.
- Apply ecology concepts and principles in the design of restoration activities for biotic and abiotic ecosystem components with an emphasis on restoration of fluvial ecosystems.
- Design an effective safety plan to conduct field work in ecological restoration.
- Work effectively in teams while fostering collaboration and critical thinking.
- Communicate ideas clearly and professionally in verbal and written formats.
