Course details
The focus of the course will be on crime scene investigations by first responders, examination of digital evidence, investigative uses of technology, investigating electronic technology crimes, and digital evidence retention and documentation, and courtroom presentation of digital evidence. Case studies of investigations performed on a real-world compromised system with lab-style, hands-on setting will be included in the course.
Prerequisite(s)
- Admission to a Forensic credential program or permission of the Program Coordinator. (N.B. Students are advised to have a basic knowledge of the various operating systems).

Learning Outcomes
The nature of computer crime is expanding and changing so rapidly there are new and sophisticated developments almost daily.
The goal of this course is to address current scams and schemes in computer crime, and the investigative strategies being developed to locate and prosecute the perpetrators. Students will also be expected to research and present topics pertinent to their current investigative pursuits in computer-based crime. Instructors will be drawn from a range of high tech crime investigation experts in the business and law enforcement communities.
