Course details
The emphasis of the course is on workplace and retail design. Students will create distinctive design concepts, branding and planning for retail spaces. Students will implement the design process for planning offices and apply their knowledge of systems furniture within a large workplace floor plate. A process journal will be developed during the course to document research, concept sketches, ideas, notes, and other inspirations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate comprehensive research implemented throughout the design process.
- Produce design solutions that meet program requirements.
- Develop appropriate and creative concepts and branding for retail spaces.
- Apply the psychology of retail sales to design solutions.
- Recognize BOMA standards required to accurately measure and calculate areas of a building.
- Create block plans for preliminary office planning.
- Produce drawings for the office such as a Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) plan, installation and power/communication plans, using AutoCAD.
- Develop a package of systems furniture and finishes specifications.
- Develop a package of systems furniture and finishes specifications.
- Document research, concept exploration and design development in a comprehensive process journal.
