Course details
This course covers the principles of building construction encompassing the study of materials, processes and construction techniques involving wood frame and masonry concrete from footing, foundations, walls, floors to ceilings and roofs of which the functional construction design problems and presentation techniques are presented. Autodesk Revit Architecture is introduced to develop a building model illustrating how the building components integrate and interact. This course may be eligible for students to receive funding through the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant at www.bcit.ca/financial-aid/strongerbc-future-skills-grant. Students register themselves into the course, then apply for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant to cover payment, if eligible.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Read and interpret building plans: site, architectural layout, and structure
- Describe the design and construction components of common vertical circulation systems: stairs and elevators
- Describe the physical and thermal characteristics of building enclosures: doors and windows with respect to their types and functionalities
- Describe the physical and construction characteristics of load bearing components: walls, floors, and roofs with respect to their framing details in different climatic zones and building types
- Describe the physical and thermal characteristics of finishing materials: footing, wall siding, and roofing membranes with respect to air-tightness, water-tightness, and water drainage
- Model a building structure with Autodesk Revit Architecture
