Course Overview
This course is the equivalent to PEMAC Maintenance Management Professional Certification Program Module 1: An Integrated Strategy for Maintenance Management. Based on the course text, Uptime, Module 1 develops the framework for thinking about a strategic approach to maintenance management that is integrated with the business. Drawing on the elements presented in the “Maintenance Excellence Pyramid" of Uptime, participants in Module 1 will learn how strategy, people, basic care, materials management, performance management, work management, support systems, and tools such as RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) and RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis) can work together to build a culture of excellence.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- State the mission of PEMAC and describe the path to MMP certification. (Lesson 1)
- Describe the history and development of maintenance management strategies and how programs such as planned maintenance, predictive maintenance and Reliability Centered Maintenance evolved. (Lesson 1)
- Draw the Uptime "Pyramid of Excellence" and explain why an integrated, strategic approach to maintenance and asset management is important to industry. (Lesson 1)
- Discuss the importance of strategy and people to the maintenance leader. (Lesson 2)
- List and describe the essential tools for executing a maintenance strategy: Work Management, Management and Support Systems, Basic Care, Materials Management and Performance Management. (Lesson 3)
- Briefly describe common methodologies that are used to achieve excellence in maintenance management and categorize them according to whether they are asset, team or process centered. (Lesson 4)
- Assess a given maintenance situation or problem and identify a potential strategy for improvement. (Apply the "Maintenance Maturity Grid" at a superficial level - more depth in subsequent modules.)
