Course Overview
This course is designed to help you consolidate the theory learned in NSHA 7050 or NSHA 7100 by providing the opportunity to apply concepts to cases in a virtual clinical setting. The course prepares you to assess people in a comprehensive and focused manner and to use the oxygen supply and demand framework to make informed clinical decisions. Specifically, you are applying and integrating nursing knowledge to provide care for acutely ill patients experiencing selected health problems. You have the opportunity to further develop your comprehensive assessment abilities, monitoring skills and clinical decision-making. You are also given the ability to work collaboratively to provide safe, competent and ethical nursing care.

Learning Outcomes
As a healthcare practitioner, you are expected to follow professional standards of practice throughout all Specialty Nursing programs and courses. In this course, you have opportunities to use the processes of critical thinking, systematic inquiry, communication, collaboration, leadership, professionalism, and clinical decision-making. Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Collaborate effectively with peers to systematically complete comprehensive assessment documentation and evaluate gathered data.
- Utilize comprehensive assessment data within the Oxygen Supply and Demand framework to formulate informed conclusions.
- Integrate comprehensive assessment data related to specific acute illness conditions to substantiate conclusions drawn within the Oxygen Supply and Demand framework.
- Analyze and articulate the interdependencies among various determinants within the Oxygen Supply and Demand framework.
- Apply Gillespie-Paterson’s Situated Clinical Decision-Making framework to devise appropriate clinical interventions for managing patients with selected acute illness conditions.
- Work independently and collaboratively with peers to optimize care delivery and achieve favorable patient outcomes in the context of selected acute illness conditions.
- Demonstrate fulfilling the Key Areas of Practice clinical indicators through application of clinical knowledge.
- Engage in self-reflection on professional practice to foster continuous improvement and promote personal and professional growth.
