Course Overview
This course is designed to acquaint students with a more in-depth understanding of a diagnostic electrophysiology study. The focus is the cardiac stimulation techniques used by EP labs to determine the mechanisms of various arrhythmias. The course addresses arrhythmia mechanisms, the basic diagnostic study, the EP study for VT, the EP study for Syncope and EP studies for a variety of Supraventricular arrhythmias. In addition, specific diagnostic pacing interventions to confirm the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of various arrhythmias will be discussed. Other topics include the mechanisms of various arrhythmias, the interventions into these mechanisms that help to prove the mechanism and the subsequent treatment of these arrhythmias with ablation therapy.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the electrophysiology concepts of impulse formation and impulse propagation.
- Explain the principles of the diagnostic electrophysiologic study.
- Articulate the appropriate EP study protocol for supraventricular arrhythmias.
- Articulate the appropriate EP study protocol for ventricular arrhythmias.
- Recognize the different mechanisms that cause syncope, their associated treatments, and the clinical tests used for diagnosing syncope.
- Explain pace termination of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias.
- Describe how RF energy is used to ablate an inducible arrhythmia.
- Describe CRYO works to create ablation lesions.
- Differenctiate the use of Para-Hisian pacing, Base pacing and Apex pacing.
