Forest Therapy & Teachings from the Land

October 16 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm PDT

A silent forest in spring with beautiful bright sun rays

Learning on the land is an Indigenous practice that is immersive, relational, and wholistic.

Forest therapy, or forest bathing, is the practice of surrounding oneself in nature and being in the moment. It is not a hike or a naturalist walk, rather the destination is to simply slow down and find a connection with the present moment. Take a break in your day and discover what nature has in store for you as you participate in a forest therapy walk. Discover the healing power of the forest as you connect with the natural world and leave feeling refreshed and revitalized.

Join us for a thoughtful and immersive walk through Guichon Creek, learn about the history of these lands, and consider a new way of thinking about the lands upon which BCIT resides. Through this experience we will discuss the importance of land acknowledgements as a meaningful action towards reconciliation and consider how immersing in nature can be powerful tool to facilitate the writing of a meaningful land acknowledgement.

Trees are the foundation of the forests, but a forest is much more than what you see…. Underground there is this other world, a world of infinite biological pathways that connect trees and allow them to communicate and allow the forest to behave as though it’s a single organism.” (Suzanne Simard UBC)
