Course Overview
This course will focus on an overview of the customary and regulatory business concepts in the marine industry, including Freight Markets and Market Practice; Chartering Contracts; Financial elements of Charter Parties covering different types of vessels such as dry bulk, tanker, liner, and containers. The course is suitable for a broad range of maritime-related professionals, including ship officers, shore-based management, new entrants to the shipping industry, logistics and supply chain professionals, ship brokers, port agencies, insurance inspectors, banks' representatives, similar organizations, Classification Societies, Marine Insurers, P&I Club Managers, Port Authorities, and Coast Guard personnel, amongst others.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Have a basic understanding of the terminology and practices related to freight markets and market practice.
- Have a basic understanding of chartering contracts covering both customary and regulatory practices.
- Demonstrate financial literacy related to elements of charter party formation and applicability.
- Demonstrate understanding of different vessel and cargo types, such as bulk (coal, lumber, sulphur, grain, etc.), tankers (oil, chemical, LNG, LPG), liners, and containers.
