This course provides an overview of international commerce, marine business, customary and regulatory concepts, including a review of the documentary aspects of marine transportation contracts/charter parties.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe freight markets and associated practices.
- Explain chartering negotiations.
- Review financial elements of charter parties.
- Describe the regulatory requirements for the transportation of sea freight cargo (including Dangerous Goods).
- Explain time and voyage charter parties – Introduction to owners'/charterer issues.
- Describe laytime, demurrage, conflict, interaction, and resolution.
