Course Overview
With a strong focus on the interconnectedness of social, environmental, and cultural factors, this course explores a range of topics essential for designing spaces that address the challenges of our rapidly changing world. Through an interdisciplinary approach, learners will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to address the issues caused by climate change; social unrest; pandemics and create built environments that prioritize the health, wellbeing, and safety of occupants, as well as the broader community and the environment. The course emphasizes the integration of inclusive design principles, Indigenous cultural values, disease prevention strategies, and the creation of resilient structures capable of withstanding extreme events.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand how building design contributes to the health and wellbeing of the occupants and the environment.
- Create environments that are inclusive and respectful of Indigenous cultural values.
- Recognize how architectural and interior design can minimize the transmission of diseases.
- Create buildings that can function and are habitable during extreme weather events or after natural disasters and the loss of power.
- Make buildings that are safer during social unrest.
