Course Overview
In this course, students engage with in-depth industry-specific knowledge in one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world: tourism. Students are introduced to the key tourism service suppliers: transportation, accommodation, food and beverage services, attractions and entertainment, and destinations. Through the use of case studies and associated readings, students examine each service supplier, considering economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts and present their findings into presentations. Online learning videos will be available for supplementary and required viewing. Individual assignments will include current topics of interest.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the interdependency of the tourism and hospitality industry.
- Identify and describe the five key service sectors within tourism industry.
- Outline the social, cultural, economic, political, and environmental factors impacting tourism locally, nationally, and globally.
- Discuss the importance of collaboration and cooperation within this interdependent industry.
- Recall the roles played by key Canadian and international tourism organizations.
- Describe how experiential tourism products are developed, managed, and delivered.
- Describe some of the technological trends that are shaping the industry.
- Identify future challenges and opportunities within the tourism and hospitality industries.
