Course Overview
Provides an overview of the OH&S field and discusses how health and safety relate to an organization's overall management system. Introduces leadership commitment, open communication, and legal accountability as core concepts that form the basis for effective safety programs. Also explores the wide variety of functions within the OH&S field and the required resources for the safety generalist.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Provide an overview of the OHS field and the role of the OHS practitioner.
- Summarizes the history of OHS and describes key lessons learned from the early pioneers in the field.
- Outline the basic principles of OHS.
- Identify the founding principles of OHS legislation and outline the similarities and differences between jurisdictions.
- Describe the key components of a safety program.
- Describe the relationship between a successful safety program, effective leadership and communication, and a strong commitment to safety.
- Provides examples of ethical dilemmas and potential resolutions in the OHS field.
- List and describe several resources available to OHS practitioners.
- Describe how a safety system differs from a safety program and explain why the OHS practitioner needs to be concerned with.

This is a one-time option to extend for another 12-week term at a reduced tuition fee.
