TREK – Travel reimbursement for enhancing knowledge

These grants are to increase opportunities for permanent faculty members (FSA and BCGEU) to attend conferences that specifically enhance teaching and support student learning.

Funding awarded for non-salary expenses (i.e., attending a workshop as a participant or purchasing resources) will be treated as expense reimbursement if paid for directly by the applicant. These payments are not treated as employment income and the applicant will be reimbursed the exact amount expended. Funds are allotted with priority to first-time applicants and then awarded based on a first-come first-served basis until the allotment is exhausted.

Application Deadline

We will start accepting applications for a new round of TREK grants on September 16, 2024. The application window will be open for two weeks, until September 30. Within the budget, we prioritize first-time applicants, and then grants are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

How to apply for TREK funding

Please follow these steps to successfully complete the documentation that is required prior to your travel:

Step 1. Apply for a TREK grant by sending the completed and signed Applications [DOC] as an attachment to develop@bcit.ca. Prior to submission, check website to confirm that applications are being accepted.

Step 2. Allow at least one month for a decision to be made by the Committee on your application. Once a decision has been made, you will be informed by way of a letter.

Step 3. If your application is approved, submit a Pre-Approval for travel in Chrome River.  Ensure you include your manager’s and Glen Magel’s approvals.

Note: Approval from the Institution and the Committee is required prior to making travel arrangements. Do not travel and then ask for approval. Retroactive decisions will not be considered by the Committee.
