Congratulations to the 258 BCIT students who received Graduating Achievement Awards in 2023. This year’s student recipients were invited to meet and thank the donors who made their awards possible at the inaugural Student Awards Mix and Mingle events, which were held after each Spring Convocation ceremony in June. In total, more than 150 guests—including students, donors, faculty, and staff—attended the gatherings.
All the donors in attendance were excited to meet in person the students that their awards recognized. Donor Colin Grover—who supports the John Eric Anderson & Desmond William Carrier Achievement of Award established by his employer J.E. Anderson & Associates—shared the reason behind his enthusiasm as well as his special connection.
“I received an award as a student, and it made such difference for me,” Colin said. “It feels good to be able to give back to BCIT’s hardworking students.” He added that he jumped at the chance to attend the Mix and Mingle, as it took place on the 20th anniversary of this alum’s own graduation from the BCIT Civil Engineering program in 2003.
The Graduating Achievement Awards, which are presented to graduating students who display academic excellence at the Institute, reflect BCIT students’ pursuit of going above and beyond. The recipients are not only recognized for their academic achievements, but also for their outstanding leadership and positive contributions to the community. “Recognizing the success of our students and their outstanding leadership is more than just a reason to celebrate,” says Jackie Jacob, Interim Vice President, BCIT Advancement. “It provides our award recipients with the motivation to continue leading in their chosen sectors and exemplifying the values for which BCIT is known. We look forward to following their career journeys as alumni. We also gratefully acknowledge our incredible community of donors, without whom these success stories would not be possible.”
