Temporary Notice

To support physical distancing due to COVID-19, BCIT has temporarily suspended in-person face-to-face interviews. We are still actively recruiting and conducting interviews by telephone or by online video conferencing technology.

Our application and interview process differs from role to role. As an institute with a vision of empowering people, we want to prepare you for the hiring process.

Our hiring process

If you’ve applied to a position, you can check your application status in the careers portal. Here’s a bit more information about the process:

  1. Application – to start, submit your application through our careers portal.
  2. Know your knowledge – For certain positions, you might be called in to do some testing. This may happen before or after an interview.
  3. Shortlisting – We will contact the candidates shortlisted for an interview to schedule a time.
  4. Interview – You can expect a 45 min to 1 hr panel style interview focused on assessing your knowledge, skills and abilities. At this time, you may be asked to do a presentation or to demonstrate your skills and abilities. If this is the case, we will let you know at the shortlisting stage.
  5. Follow up – we may ask to speak to you a second time to get to know you better.
  6. References – if you are selected to move forward, you will be asked for 2-3 references who have worked in a supervisory role.
  7. Welcome – if you are successful, you will receive a verbal offer, followed by a letter of offer.
  8. Credentials – you will need to submit originals of your credentials, directly from the granting institution. International credentials should be assessed by an approved credential evaluation services.

Online interview etiquette

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your flexibility to accommodate online interviews.

Given the rise in the use of Zoom and other technologies to facilitate meetings and interviews, we would like to send a few friendly reminders as a courtesy to your fellow colleagues and candidates:

  • Find a quiet, private, well-lit place, free from possible interruptions.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Check that your audio and webcam are working. This can be tested on Zoom’s platform prior to your interview here.
  • If you are planning to use a virtual background, please only use backgrounds that are plain in color.
  • Dress professionally as you normally would for an in-person interview.
  • Close or minimize background windows that may pose as a distraction.
  • Place your phone in silent mode and mute your microphone when another person is speaking to avoid background noise disruptions.
  • If your interview requires you to prepare material for the committee, please familiarize yourself with the Share Screen feature of Zoom. The screen share capabilities of Zoom can be used to navigate through the slides of your presentation in the event that you take this route. A tutorial for this can be found here.
